CHICHESTER
RACQUETS & FITNESS CLUB
INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS Chichester is an historic City located close to the borders of West Sussex and Hampshire, some 15 miles east of Portsmouth and 35 miles West of Brighton. There are major road links to the Motorway system, a main-line railway station with regular services throughout the region, and to London via Gatwick Airport. The City has a resident population of some 25,000 although the day-time population is estimated at closer to 100,000. Founded in 1964, the Club sits in the beautiful location of Oaklands Park on the Northern edge of the old City Walls just 5 minutes walk from the City centre, and is renowned for its facilities, and its sporting successes. There are currently some 1460 members although there is still significant room for increasing this number. The Club is a Members’ Club and operates within a strong Committee structure. The Clubhouse has been developed and extended over the years, and is extremely well appointed. A recent £150,000 re-development programme has been completed with a further development in the planning stages. The Bar and Lounge are well furnished, and with the Dining facilities offer an attractive place to relax after exercise. The Clubhouse enjoys substantial parking facilities within its own barrier-controlled grounds, and there is a public car-park adjacent to the Club with over 1500 additional spaces available. Tennis is a hugely popular activity, and with 12 all-weather courts, including 3 Astroturf, the members have a superb facility to enjoy. 3 courts are covered during the winter months. The Club also manages 7 further all-weather courts on behalf of the local Council immediately adjacent to the Club, which were re-developed last year at a cost in excess of £200,000. All of the Club’s courts are floodlit to well above LTA minimum levels, and regularly maintained to a high standard. Details of all the Club’s Tennis activities, teams and coaching programmes can be found on the website. There are 5 superbly maintained Squash courts including 1 glass-backed Championship court with a well-supported internal league structure and a wide range of County League Teams. The Club competes in most categories of the National Club Championships, and features a team in the Premier Squash League, which has reached the play-off stages for the last 3 years. The Club has now been selected by England Squash to join the TASS programme in conjunction with Chichester College and the University of Chichester. Further details of this can be found elsewhere on the website, along with more information about the coaching programme. Also contained within the Clubhouse is a well equipped Gym, which has recently seen the installation of the latest range of Technogym cv equipment featuring integrated tv. The Gym also features a good selection of resistance stations and a wide range of free weights. A growing range of exercise classes is being added to the activities of the Gym. Interested
applicants should proceed to the next stage of completing the specific
information required, which also includes procedures for arranging visits
to the Club if desired. |
