INDICATIVE JOB DESCRIPTION

Post: CLUB MANAGER

Responsible to: Executive and Management Committee

Salary range: Negotiable – c. £28,000 to £35,000 plus benefits, range commensurate with skills and experience

Responsible for:

The Club Manager will be accountable and responsible for delivery to the highest quality standards within the parameters of the Club Constitution, the Club Rules, and the Financial Budget, for:

1. The smooth, cost-efficient, and safe operation of the Club on a day to day basis.

2. Staff recruitment, management, deployment, development and training, including the motivation of staff to perform their duties to the highest agreed standards.

3. Management of agreed financial and accounting procedures including security of cash on the premises and in transit.

4. Provision and maintenance in good working order of all technical services and equipment installed within the external boundary and buildings comprising the Club.

5. The production and regular review of an 18-month Marketing Plan for the Club and its activities designed to encourage new and retain membership from the local and wider Chichester area.

6. The continued development of Club and regional competition events and leagues and promotion of the Club’s activities to encourage participation by its members and to improve and sustain the Club’s profile and standing within the region.

7. Management and development of the Club’s professional sports coaching team and the specific activities of Tennis, Squash, Health and Fitness, ensuring compliance to the advice and directives of their governing bodies and the Fitness Industry Association for example, linked to coaching qualifications and practice.

8. Compliance with all current legislation regarding the safe operation of the Club’s premises and equipment and the safety of staff, members and visitors, including use and storage of chemicals, health and safety at work, and food hygiene legislation.


9. Production of financial, performance, operational and usage reports to the Executive Committee at least on a monthly basis and in an agreed format.

10. The production of a Business Plan for the operation of the Club’s activities, including the Bar and Catering operation, and annual forecasts for approval by the Committee, to be reviewed and adjusted against actual performance.

11. All administrative systems and procedures including use and development of IT support.

12. The efficient operation of the Bar and Catering operations to ensure compliance with all Health and Safety and Food Hygiene Regulations, and industry norms and best practices for purchase and storage of goods, cost percentage control, and profit margins.

13. Promotion of the social activities within the Club to encourage greater use of the Club’s bar and catering facilities.

14. Liaising with key business, agencies, governing bodies and the District and County Councils as appropriate to promote the activities of the Club and participate in wider District initiatives where approved by the Committee.

15. Review and oversee possible further development opportunities for improving the Club’s physical facilities and events programme.

16. Any other duties and responsibilities as may reasonably be required by the Executive Committee commensurate with the role of Club Manager.
